you must remember this

Your love, against all odds, survived
The years' relentless toll.
And by some chance of fate arrived
In time to lift my soul.

When the night was at its darkest
In the forest of despair,
Your love shone like a beacon
Through the mist that held me there.

You gently took my hand in yours
And whispered words of calm,
“Be not afraid of what's to come,
The brave it cannot harm”.

Hand in hand through those dark hours,
An eternity of doubt.
You worked your charms, your special powers,
To keep my demons out.

And, though the path was overgrown,
You walked it without fear.
Guided each uncertain footstep
Till the way ahead was clear.

And with it came a dawn of hope,
A calm untroubled sea.
Where carefree thoughts could now elope
And finally be free.

A dawn that gives me chance to say
My guardian angel, Sue
My hopes, my dreams, my every day
I owe them all to you.
